We all know the feeling, you’ve hooked a nice fish, fought it all the way back, only to lose it as you reach down to pick it up. It’s very frustrating. If only you had a decent Fish Lip Gripper.

Sure, a net is great, but these are big and bulky. Not exactly something you can carry on your person. How many times have you gone to reach for the net and the same thing happens, fish are gone? That’s when a good pair of fish lip grips are needed and the Piscifun Fish Lip Gripper with Digital Scale is exactly.

Piscifun Fish Lip Gripper

I have owned many lip grips over the years, from cheap to quite expensive. One thing I’ve learned is that just because you spend a lot of money on something, doesn’t mean that it’s better than the cheaper option.

I bought the Piscifun Fish Lip Gripper with Digital Scale after being told about it by a fishing friend of mine, and have been very happy with the purchase.

First of all, let’s go over the specifications of the Piscifun Fish Lip Gripper with Digital Scale

What to look for

When looking at a new pair of lip grips, a few things you should always look out for are

  • Price
  • Material
  • Weight
  • Construction
  • Lanyard
  • Easy to read
  • Weight rating
  • Jaw size

First impression

The first thing I noticed when I picked these up (besides the weight of course which is a very light 0.33 kgs) is how comfortable it was in my hand. This product sits very nicely in the hand and allows you to get a good strong grip, minimizing the chances of dropping it, and your fish.

A nice added feature is the built-in LCD light to aid gripper placement at night or in low light. For extra peace of mind, it also comes with a lanyard for the really big and lively fish.

Before I even tried Piscifun Fish Lip Gripper it was already ticking all the boxes. The big, bright digital display made reading the weight very easy and most importantly, made it easy to see in pictures.

The display is also able to be moved into better a position for those photos or to just make it easier to read. With the 360 degrees rotating handle, you will have no problem seeing the weight no matter how much the fish turns, while still being able to keep a strong grip.

On The Water

So I was happy with it on land, but how would it go out in the boat. Before I launched the boat, I thought it might be a good idea to test the supposed 100% waterproof claims. It comes with a 1-year warranty, so I turned it on and put it in about a foot of water as I got the boat ready.

About 5 minutes, when I came back, it was still working perfectly. I put a bit of weight on it to make sure the scales still worked, and they did. Time to get out there.

We headed out to one of our favorite spots, about an hour offshore. It wasn’t long before we were onto the fish, and soon after, had a fish on the surface. Not the biggest fish, around 2kgs. I grabbed the lip grips, put the lanyard over my hand, and leaned over the side as my mate held it near the boat.

First Real Test

First try, on a real target. I opened it about half of the capacity (about 2 cm) over the bottom lip and bang, let go. It was a perfect grab, right in the middle of the lip.

I gave it a bit of a gentle pull to test and was happy to see the fish move with it. I slowly lifted the fish out of the water and into the boat. Even with the kicks it never felt like the fish would come off.

A quick weight check with the new and old grips revealed a slight difference in weight. The new ones say 2.2Kgs, and the old 2.3kgs, pretty close.

We went on to catch quite a few that day, with the Piscifun Fish Lip Gripper performing well, although the scales were out a couple of times compared to the old grips (it may well of being the old ones out) I ended up saving the weight of 5 fish on the scale ranging from 2.2kgs (first fish) to 7.5kgs.

I love this feature as I have a terrible memory, and helps when bragging to your mates. We were saved quite a few times by the auto shut-off feature as we kept forgetting to turn it off in the excitement. Another handy feature.

Back onshore

I couldn’t be happier with these lip grips. Didn’t lose a fish all day (not because of the lip grips anyway) and have a record of some of the bigger fish we caught. Would have been nice to download these straight to the computer with a cord or Bluetooth, but for the price, I’m not surprised this isn’t an option.

I would recommend these to anyone that is looking for a middle-of-the-range pair of grips that are good quality but won’t break the bank.

So there you have it, another great product from Piscifun. I have always been impressed with their products and wasn’t let down this time either. If you have any questions or have any comments please don’t hesitate to leave them in the comment section below. As always
