Over the years, with the improvements in Telescopic Fishing Rods, you now have some great choices. These days, the quality means you can find one of these rods for most situations, and still have the strength you need, while having the benefit of being easier to transport.

I remember buying one of these types of rods many years ago, thinking it was the best thing. When I was young, I rode my bike to the jetty, so I could put it in my backpack easily.

I used it mostly for small fish and squid, and it worked quite well. But one day, I hooked on something a bit bigger than what I was targeting. I no longer had one rod, but three.

I was pretty upset ( I was Ten) and swore I would never buy one again. I’m now in my 40s, and only recently bought my second telescopic fishing rod. This time I put a lot of research in and am very happy with what I got. I compiled a list of the better ones I came across in my searches, so you don’t have to.

KastKing Compass is another newcomer. Available in both spinning and casting models, you have a huge range of sizes to choose from. Everything from a light 5’6 rod for youngsters and smaller fish, up to 7′ medium heavy for a wide range of species.

This rod is made with a very light and sensitive graphite composite blank. This makes them lighter than fiberglass blanks as well as transmits energy better.

This KastKing retracts to a small 17′, making it great for home transport and storage. Lightweight graphite spinning reel seats and graphite casting reel seats with a trigger will keep fishing reels securely in place.

Stainless steel guide frames with Titanium Oxide ceramic rings are perfect for use with mono, fluorocarbon, and braided fishing lines. Each travel rod also includes a Drop Shot style hook keeper.

Pros

For a new brand, they have very quickly integrated themself into the market and people’s fishing arsenal. This is one of the best I’ve used. Yes, I said used because this is the one I bought. As you can see, the features are very numerous. Probably the only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t retract as much as I would like.

I like to do a lot of hiking when fishing, so one of the reasons I wanted a telescopic rod was so I could keep it in my new Piscifun Fishing Tackle Backpack which is perfect for what I want to be doing.

The KastKing Blackhawk has 4 layers of 23-ton carbon fiber shards that make it so sensitive and flexible that you will forget you are using a telescopic rod. Though it’s of graphite construction, it features a fiberglass tip for added strength. The guidelines are stainless steel and fully adjustable

This rod also comes in a wide variety of lengths, action, and power combinations, so there is no excuse for not having the right one for the job. While it might not be the cheapest option, price-to-product product ratio, this is the best value and my number one pick.

Pros

  • Quick and smooth assembly
  • Sensitive and flexible
  • Very lightweight for the size
  • Wide variety of options to choose from
  • Reinforced tip
  • Adjustable guides

Cons

  • It doesn’t come with a bag
  • Longer than other options when collapsed

Rating 9/10

That’s a Wrap

These are my top five, This time I put a lot of research into these (I’m sure you are) as I wanted one for myself. Telescopic rods have come a long way in the last decade, and are nearly as good as a one or two-piece. It is so easy to put in the backpack, and head out. For one of the best backpacks I found and bought, check out my review on the Piscifun Fishing Tackle Backpack.

I hope you enjoyed reading my post on Telescopic Fishing Rods, and have maybe helped you to make your mind up on which is right for you. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them in the comment section below. As Always
